Default LGBT communities rally against russia.. but why not mid east?

OK. I have been seeing on todays and yesterdays tickers for both fox and CNN that both US and other countries LGBT communities are rallying against Russia's anti gay policies, including recently going so far as to mark housing complexes to show a gay lives there (and as one CNN commentator said, making it similar to how the Nazi's marked where jews lived).
BUT i also wonder why we don't see such hatred to other countries who have anti gay laws, such as many of the mid eastern countries?

Is it cause they only call to boycott those countries they feel they won't worry about retaliation from>?

It's trendy because of the upcoming Olympics over there. Russia is going to be on a big bright stage and the activists hope to exploit the opportunity to embarass them into making reforms. Same deal with human rights activists and China a few years back.

Welcome to 6 months ago. The reason is primarily because of a new law passing in June of this year and that it would be enforced during the games (announced in August). The internal political issues within Russia has a long and complicated history on freedom of expression, not just for LGBT but for many political and religious groups. Beginning in 2006, a series of laws have been passed restricting freedom of association, expression, etc. primarily aimed at the LGBT community, which have undone a number of previously passed laws which allowed greater freedoms for the people of Russia.

Although the press is "paying attention" to the LGBT protests with the upcoming Olympics, this has had the attention of Human Rights organizations for a number of years.

Start following George Takei, like or hate, agree or disagree, Facebook or Twitter, I guarantee you will be current on these types of issues...
"The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first." ~ Thomas Jefferson

It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood.

Obama recently said he'd love to see a gay/lesbian win a medal in the Olympics as it would send a signal to whoever about whatever. Has nobody ever watched ice skating/dancing? It's not like this is a new thing.

All this has done is put more focus on something that's always been well known about with a lot of these athletes. I wonder if Russia will disown all of it's male ice skater over the years who have won medals.

I don't care either way, but I don't think it's up to us to get involved with another countries laws. Does history teach us nothing?

The thing is, is to me it seems pushing their agenda (getting gay marriage legal over here) does not seem good enough for the LGBT community. They want to force it on everyone else too.

Its easier to push an issue is another country already made those changes. That way we can turn it into a measuring contest.

Sort of like America does with democracy and our way of living. We should worry about ourselves and quit pushing our values across the globe. And so should groups who push their ideals and values on everybody else.
