    Default BOP to McGuire

I just put in a BOP for McGuire. I know I probably won't get it. I met all the requirements to apply for a BOP so I figured why not. Has anyone ever had success with the BOP process? or is there anyone out there that could move my BOP along? I have family in NJ and enjoy the state very much. Like I said I figured I'd give it a shot and see what happens.

Did BOP as part of first term reenlistment. Got number 2 on my list. Just make sure you get everything in writing.

I've already re-enlisted back in 09 so I fall under the career airman BOP. We'll see how it goes. I'm expecting a deny.

What is the billet situation there for your AFSC and rank?

If there are jobs for you there, I'd say you have a decent shot if you are returning from overseas.

They dragged me there kicking and screaming on a CONUS to CONUS move but I slowly became a fan of the Garden State.

I have seen many apply and all denied for various reasons. All.

I had my BOP application approved two years ago as a Career Amn.

Call the assignment manager and say you thought it over and made a mistake and want a different BOP. Then tell him "there ain't enough damn stripes at AFPC that can make me go to Maguire so I ain't goin." You'll have orders to Maguire in 5 days tops.

I'll start by saying my situation may not be the norm and I wouldn't tell just anyone to take the path I did.

So with that out of the way, I worked with AFPC and received my top choice when I was a SrA. I had no confidence in anyone that outranked me in my unit at the time, as seemingly every NCO and SNCO that seemed to give a crap about anything other than killing time, had PCS'd, separated, or retired. I say that because ot served as my motivation to contact AFPC myself. I got my first choice because I respectfully approached the guy I worked with at AFPC, pleaded my case in a manner that wasn't solely about making me happy, and I didn't harass him or change my mind about what I wanted. It took a little time, but it was a smooth process overall.

Some will tell you that this is something you shouldn't do. I would say its situational and you may want to ask around to get a feel for what flies in your career field, and at your unit.

    Funny Bruwin.

I have personally recieved a BOP. There is no real magic to it. If the place you request has the vacancy, and where you are is manned above a certain level, you get the assignment. A few years back, the magic number was 85%. Your base over, thier base under. I believe the number has changed, not sure what it is now.

^^^^ Check this site, it breaks it down by base, MAJOM, grade, etc

Btw had a BOP myself and it was denied due to manning....so yeah been disapproved before. If I can't get out of here on this next OS cycle I will retry BOP hopefully...
