AEF Next is nothing more than lipstick on a pig.Decades ago the AF started down a path that led to the current deployment method to build deployed "expeditionary wings" from pieces throughout the AF to avoid "breaking the base" at any single home station. Air Force wings no longer go to war - they provide bodies and equipment for expeditionary wings. Historic wings like the 1st or 4th Fighter Wings no longer go into battle but just send their people to become part of another unit. Can you imagine the Army doing this and instead of sending the 82nd Airborne or 10th Mountain Division to war just send the people who train with those units over to the AOR to become part of some expeditionary division?"AEF Next" will not change the entire system, but it will refine the current way the Air Force does deployments, Roy said.It will give Airmen the ability to communicate within the joint community and the ability to deploy with leaders and teams with whom they have trained.
