Check out the MicroSoft HUP (Home Use Program). In most cases, you put in your government email address for verification and can the program for next to nothing. I recently got Office 2013 for $15.

    Default microsoft office free??

I know when i was active, we could get programs like office, nornton etc for free via our base IT shop.
But now i am retired, can i still get it for free?

My reply is above your OP... but that's just how it works here.

That's odd. I am retired and I still have my AKO account. That's a shame. The only other means I know of is working for a .gov agency or maybe your employer has that deal. Bummer.

It is illegal, but yes it should install. The only issue may be updates at a later time.

Rats... so looks like i either got to put up with open office (downloaded it and though it opens most of my word docs ok, some it royally messes up due to their size being 200+ pages long with lots of tables in) or pony up the 100+ to get MS office..
