    Default MED Criteria Help

I am checking if anyone knows the regulation covering what health matters are considered for a MEB. I looked on e-publishing and could not find it. I was tested for a genetic disorder that runs in my family. It causes an increased risk of cancer by 70 percent. I have a 50/50 chance of having it. I will find out in a few weeks if I have it. If I do, I am checking for my own knowledge if this fits the criteria for a MEB.

    Thanks for the help.

Try 48-123. It covers physicals exams and possibly waivers.

10-203 also, it covers MEBs and the reasons they can be started, how they are conducted, etc. You will pretty much want 10-203 and 48-123 open side-by-side because they reference each other regularly.

What you're talking about will also require a line-of-duty determination.

The MEB is going to look at your service, potential effects of the disorder that you have, time it will take to develop and progress, whether you can be gainfully employed by the Air Force while having the disorder, etc.

Worst case, they will recommend medical separation or retirement.

The LOD is what you need to worry about - if the condition is determined to be non-duty related, then I would expect (verify this, I don't work for the VA) that the Air Force and the VA won't do anything treat your condition once you're out.

    Good luck.

Perfect is the enemy of good enough.
The pursuit of excellence only for the sake of achieving excellence is a waste:
Time and energy spent pursuing excellence in one area is
time and energy that could have been used to improve in another area.
