Wow.. Just got an email from the politico newspaper (some reason i keep getting them) which highlighted this new law that Obama signed into power Mar 8th... Surprised i have not heard a single peep out of CNN, MSNBC or even fox news about it..
Can you post the link to the official source documentation, like the actual law?
I would think that going inside a Secret Service cordon without an invitation would be a crime, but that's just me. Did not see where the link said anything about "protesting", but just trying to get inside a SS cordon uninvited. Makes sense from a security point of view.
Few things on this. First of all, before this law was passed you had to committ some other offense to be charged with a crime. For example if someone made stupid or disruptive, but non-threatening, actions in a SS secured area, they were simply escorted away and told to leave, maybe charged with a disorderly conduct charge or something.I would think that going inside a Secret Service cordon without an invitation would be a crime, but that's just me. This law makes it a FELONY to do any such thing, and felonies carry minimum 1 year jail time (unless you plea).
Also, the langauge in the bill is absurdly vague. "impede or disrupt the
orderly conduct of Government business or official functions" What does that mean? Define it for me please.
I'll give you an example of why this is utterly scary law:
Awhile back some people glitter bombed Santorum and Romney. Under this law, if they were under SS protection (they've requested it), glitter bombing these guys would land you a felony charge. How is that American? What good is it be able to protest if the people you're protesting can't hear you?
The Code Pink people disrupting various hearings and political functions. This law makes it a felony for any of them to do such a thing again.
Probably why this bill has bipartisan support. It squashes those pesky disruptive people from doing any such equally for both parties.
its for the common good comrade...
Da.. we the proteleriate know whats best for you all.
If they're the SECRET service... how do you know there's secret service in your area, and your protest is breaking the law? Well... the cops beating you down with nightsticks should be a hint.
Oh, and don't complain about this law. Its UnAmerican.
