I just completed my technical school today and I still don't have my orders (and therefore can't outprocess or do anything). The MTL who handles the orders told me I'll likely have to wait until October before I even get them, and it's caused by FY11 ending and budget changes.
I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to speed up getting my orders. I've had my assignment since May. I really would like to leave Sheppard asap, but they basically told me there's nothing I can do besides wait. It seems like they would have had ample time to get my orders squared away and get me a sponsor (my base just found out I exist two weeks ago, still not sponsor) but I guess not. I'm a little concerned about this affecting my RNLTD and screwing me out of taking leave.
Is this a normal thing nearing the end of the fiscal year or is it just someone being lazy?
Oh yeah, is this the norm on the operational side as well?

Your RNLTD can be changed, consult with your local Assignments personnel.
Thanks for the help guys. Guess I'll just suck it up for the next couple of weeks, getting paid either way.
What do they have you doing while sitting around waiting for orders?
I won't be just chilling all day, wiping the same window down for hours on end is probably what I'll end up doing. Maybe they'll put me on the CQ desk (cake job). Oh well at least I'll have some more money saved for when I go on leave.
It's not just a tech school thing and it does happen throughout the AF. I do not have an answer as to why though. Just know that your orders are coming and everything will smooth out. If you spend time worrying about stuff out of your control you will have a long and stressful time in the military.
Lots of people get caught in the bubbles, make the best of it and stay out of trouble your still getting compensated. I met a guy that was on a medical hold during flight school for over a year.
