Excellent article ET2 Fisher! My only concern is: Hoping you won't face retribution or retaliation from the Chief's Mess for this article.

While I'll agree with you to a degree, you do touch upon an issue that bothered me when I first made Chief many years ago--the sense of entitlement one feels when they pin on their anchors.

Making it into the Chief's Mess was truly a bitter-sweet experience for me. I was elated to have made Chief--first time up nonetheless--but also distraught by the actions I witnessed behind closed doors.

In short, a Chief and their anchors are only as good as they are. There are many good Chiefs and sadly, many poor Chiefs which I seemed to experince more of the latter. Don't let it hinder your career and be sure to raise the bar and set the example when your time comes!
