NY schools to start observing Muslim holidays

Not sure if it should be here, down in the Religion section or up in the "Hot news items" section..

Apparently Mayor De-blasio is signing into law a bill that makes NYC schools now need to let off students for 2 Islamic holidays, calling them those holiday days.

BUT what gets me, is Xmas/Easter and some other Christian/Jewish holidays that are recognized national holidays are having to get renamed all the time, so as to NOT sound religious, all cause of Atheist groups suing for "Separation of church and state"..

So how is it ok that Islamic holidays are being allowed to be named and celebrated but christian ones can;t?

Now in the first link, it mentions this is being done to 'recognize the growing population of Muslims in school. BUT why is it that #s matter when it is for something like this, but NOT when its the majority?
It also had this quote which i had to laugh at
"This new addition will also enable a teachable moment in the classroom for our students to learn about religious tolerance and the societal contributions of various cultures," Fariña said.
That is sweet, coming from a Religion which Shows it has NO Tolerance for any other religion.

For example? If you look at a federal government calendar, the names are kept. Are you talking about state and city calendars? If so, which ones?

Which Christian holidays can't be named and celebrated? I've never heard any other name for Christmas or Easter used in an official capacity.

There are less Jews in the US than Muslims, yet some state and local governments recognize those.

What you just said can apply to many religions. Like Christianity. You're living proof of that.
