    Fake Ranger gets called out

I'm sure this fatass is regretting going to the mall in uniform with his fake CIB and Ranger scroll.

The guy who called him out let him have it, and a segment of this video has been running on CNN and Fox every hour this morning.

Why is it (or so it seems to me) that humiliating people like this is ok, but "naming and shaming" of actual criminals to a lot of people is seen as wrong?

I would guess that most people who think "naming and shaming" of actual criminals is wrong don't think something like a guy claiming to be a Ranger, SeAL, Medal of Honor recipient etc. is a big deal either.

I say he humiliated and shamed himself.

He also went to extraordinary measures to do it, he had to go out and purchase those patches, put on the uniform on Black Friday and go shopping.

He might have been in the military briefly at some point, but I'm thinking he isn't now. So he probably had to acquire the entire uniform.

I don't feel sorry for him at all, and I would go easier on a criminal that has been to jail, at least they have paid a price.

This is not his first offense either. He did something similar back in 2003. I think it was a cop that time. This time he got fired from his job and is getting regular phone calls and even death threats.

I like the way these Marines handle this guy, they keep him going until he is so deep in a hole.

I'd say that this is about the same; at least to me. Some people need to be able to look down on others in order to sleep at night; I don't. When I'm on facebook and I see the local news channel post a mug shot, I can't help but shake my head at all of the comments.

I don't hate these people for their comments, but I can't help but think that when the media - or the courts, or politicians - throw people out there for us to look down on, that our attention is being diverted away from people who are doing even more damage in our society.

If I saw a faker, I'd probably ask one or two questions (just to confirm my suspicion) and then leave it alone. But to draw attention to him, much less make a video and put it on youtube? That's just not something I'd do.

To put this in perspective, I'm not knocking anyone who WOULD do it; I'm just saying I wouldn't.

It is unfortunate that some people go out of their way to 'ruin the lives' of some these Stolen Valor folks; many of them are just sad individuals. In some cases it does seem excessive.

In some cases, where you have people who have gotten material goods, money, jobs etc based on false claims I have no issue with letting the public know they have misrepresented their military service.

This guy ... Don Shipley ... is a retired Senior Chief SeAL runs a SeAL training program in Chesapeake VA makes a point of verifying queries about guys claiming to be a SeAL and outs guys who fake being a Navy SeAL. He has a YouTube Channel where he records his phone calls to them. Pretty intersting stuff ... sometimes funny, mostly sad.

That video of him and his wife hunting was fucking hilarious. "Ya gut shot him..." Priceless.
Efficiency through redundancy is a contradiction in terms.

Attrition is not an effective means of combat.

We don’t just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and riffle their pockets for new vocabulary.” – James Nicoll
