I hate trying to figure out a tie. Watched a video so son can mimic but disaster when We tried to tighten it up on the neck. Are there secret clip one Army style that can be used for JROTC???

I prob need to get the ex BF to spend a day with him on this, (because I'm hopeless) but I hate not doing this kind of stuff myself!

I would not be the best authority on doing it the right way.

I will say this though, if you do it one time really well once, you can just loosen it down and tighten it up each use but leave it tied the entire time after.
"The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first." ~ Thomas Jefferson

It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood.

What AJ said is what I did until I was about 25, when you store it tied up, pull the little end as far through as you can, that way the part that gets wrinkled and cinched up will be hidden under the collar when he wears it.

You can probably go with a clip on in the same color, I am not sure what color the JROTC is using (black?)

    Re: Ties

    1. At the beginning, the wide end of the tie should be on your right side and the other end should be on your left side. Note that the tie should begin inside out.

    2. Cross the narrow end over the other end. Now three regions are formed (Left, Right and Center).

    3. Bring the wide end over the narrow end from the Left region to the Right region.

    4. Bring the wide end under the knot from the Right region to the Left region.

    5. Bring the wide end over to Center.

    6. Bring the wide end underneath the tie knot from Center to Right.

    7. Bring the wide end over the tie knot from Right to Left.

    8. Bring the wide end under the narrow part of the tie from the Left region to the Center region.

    9. Bring the wide end down and pass the loop in front. Ensure that the knot is tightened.

    10. Use one hand to pull the narrow end down gently and use the other hand to move the knot up until it reaches the center of the collar.

    11. Frown at the sloppy lop sided knot you have just formed. Remove tie and repeat the entire process.
