    Tuition assistance

Lawmaker: Fund tuition assistance, not Egypt

A Pennsylvania lawmaker proposed saving the military’s tuition assistance program by cutting foreign aid to Egypt.

The effort has almost no chance of success, at least not soon enough to make a difference before next year in the fate of the education program.

Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., introduced HR 1039 on Monday, when only the Army and Marine Corps had announced they were canceling tuition assistance because of budget cuts resulting from sequestration. The Coast Guard and Air Force have since announced that they also are ceasing new tuition assistance agreements for the rest of this fiscal year.

Is a lawmaker’s bill to stem foreign aid in favor of tuition assistance a viable plan?

It's just a way for Rep. Fitzpatrick to get his name in the news cycle. His bill has zero chance at passing and he knows it. Funny how he goes after Egypt but neglects Foreign Aid to Israel, which is one of our most worthless allies. This allows him to attack a politically safe target while at the same time endearing himself to Israel. What has Israel done for us? What can they do for us? The answer, nothing. Remember the first Gulf War, we did everything in our power to keep Israel out for fear of losing our Arab allies if Israel joined the coalition. Pakistan is also another worthless expenditure of aid. Doing away with Foreign aid would be great, unfortunately few if any our lawmakers have the balls to standup to the PACS, and or they want their money.

We need to stop foreign aid and let nature take it's course. If these countries don't have food, water, shelter, etc by now.... you have to wonder what the hell they have been doing with the billions and billions of dollars we have given them.

another vote for this having been nothing more than a publicity stunt. The two funding streams are completely different and not easily interchangeable.
