If $1 is spent on frivolous end of year spending...

...everyone should overload their IG offices with waste complaints.

People are going without things needed to take care of them and other critical items! The money is there, it's just being hoarded.

I can't get federally required safety equipment for my shop. The stuff we have is expired. We just made a note of the request in the safety binder and that's all we can do. The stuff we need amounts to less than $20 per person.

How far has your request been up-chanelled? As VFF said the money is there. A lot of units are sitting on what they do have until the next CRA (continuing resolution authority). The current CRA expires March 27th. At that point everyone is expecting a CRA that should carry us to the end of the fiscal year. Once those numbers are avaliable units should have a hard number to budget for the rest of the year. The best comparison I can think of is if you worked somewhere that was possibly annoucing layoffs in a few weeks. Worse case scenario you know that if you get laid off you can still use unemployment to get by. In the meantime you would just sit tight on your budget until you get a better idea how it will look later. Even in this situation you would still buy required items like food and clothing. The same is true for the current DoD budget. There IS money for required items. Don't let anyone tell you there isn't The question just becomes how high up you have to go to get that money. But if it is a required item there is money.

It can't be too bad. Corona is still projected for this summer.

Or people die because the equipment doesn't work. Maybe the Wing safety office could get the ball rolling.

Do you really think anyone's life is threatened in this situation? Can you cite an example?

We've had people go without cold weather gear, which is life threatening.

But we still spend money on awards/plaques.

One of the commands ours serviced when i was in Bahrain, had 3 tech assists from our comm shop, cause they didn't have the tools/parts needed to get their gear fixed.. but 3 weeks after the last one, they had a 40 man award ceremony... out of 73 people! So i know what you are saying.

"Different pot of money"...Which is a voodoo economics pile of horseshit!:frusty That whole concept needs to be flushed down the nearest toilet. IMHO, the "different pot of money" answer is one of the many MAJOR reasons the government is in the predicament it's in.
