    Tricare Prime - The End?

How long before Tricare South does the same thing? Coburn and McCain wanted this to happen last year, everyone said it wouldn't. Well, here we go.

Yepper. My 24 years of service apparently means nothing. But, I'll be okay with obamacare.

I know people on Medicare who treat the emergency room like a primary care doctor. It's just sad where we seem to be going.

many years ago the SecNav was on board for a Q&A, I was the CMAA and the XO ask if I had any questions for the boss. I said sure, I'd like to know why we work these long hours for this lousy pay? the XO woudn't pass the question to the SecNav, and later told me I should have not asked such a loaded question and that as a chief I should know the answer, "For the benifits! is why." So I got to ask where are they?

Indeed. I posited this question one time before on the "civilian vs. military" pay thread, but:

They DO NOT calculate the week ends, holidays, or night times spent on duty. Nor do they calculate the deployed time, or time at sea.

I HATE those stupid, irrelevant comparisons.

Why would anyone want to use Tricare Prime? At my location you have to wait up to two months to see a doctor, just so you can get referred to the specialist that you needed all along. With a $3,000 max annual cap, Tricare Standard is definitely the way to go!

I am probably 100 miles from a military base. Tricare Prime is great insurance for my civilian Dr. Right in, often the next day, great service, all at a low low fee.

Would you consider this great, low fee service you receive the exception or the rule for those who use Tricare Prime?

Re: Tricare Prime - The End?

Tricare Prime is a wonderful secondary insurance for me in a large city in the Southwest. My civilian/government retirement insurance had me spending more than $4K out of pocket for three eye surgeries late '07 to mid '08. When I became eligible for Tricare, my copay for further operative procedures, went from $250/event to $25/event. Also, when Tricare Prime is the secondary insurance, providers who only take Tricare standard, Prime becomes Standard if it's the secondary insurance.
I have a friend who lives in the Northeast who has only Tricare as insurance and has much more difficulty with accessing a provider and copays. I think it's a crap shoot, you have to be an insurance industry guru to understand it, and am not looking forward to more changes.

I can't provide that answer but I bet you want to.
