Why Trump Supporters Love Calling People "Snowflakes"

We investigate the embarrassing origins of Tomi Lahren and the alt-right's insult du jour.

There are a number of archetypical characters that frequent the work of alt-right political cartoonist Ben Garrison: Donald Trump with an almost sarcastically full helmet of blonde hair; a lecherous stereotype of a middle eastern man; Mr. Garrison himself as a buff hero wielding a pen and a distinguished goatee; and a “special snowflake.”
Garrison may reincarnate the character of the special snowflake into a giant baby, an anthropomorphized megaphone (wielded by George Soros), or any of a number of barnyard animals, but the distinguishing traits are always instantly recognizable: dyed hair—usually blue—cut short, numerous piercings, and a flapping tongue. The special snowflake is a whining millennial who protests instead of getting a “real job” and cries sexism because she’s upset men don’t find her attractive enough. She believed the liberal arts teacher who told her being unique is a good thing. Have I mentioned that she’s unattractive?

If “cuck” is the insult of choice for the alt-right to lump together and dismiss establishment conservatives, “snowflake” has become the go-to for enemies on the left. There is not a single political point a liberal can make on the Internet for which “You triggered, snowflake?” cannot be the comeback. It’s purpose is dismissing liberalism as something effeminate, and also infantile, an outgrowth of the lessons you were taught in kindergarten. “Sharing is caring”? Communism. “Feelings are good”? Facts over feelings. “Everyone is special and unique”? Shut up, snowflake.
The concept of a “snowflake” as a derisive term first entered the cultural zeitgeist in Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk (the irony of staunch conservatives using language popularized by an openly gay author who writes shock-value stories about debauched sexual experiences is overlooked.) “You are not special,” Palahniuk’s protagonist, Tyler Durden, told his herd of anarchists, “You're not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else.”

The term “snowflake” did have another slang application: according to Merriam Webster, “In Missouri in the early 1860s, a ‘snowflake’ was a person who was opposed to the abolition of slavery—the implication of the name being that such people valued white people over black people.” The meaning has more or less swapped. Nowadays, someone with a Confederate flag in their profile picture is more likely to be the one calling someone else a snowflake. (There is also a rumor that “snowflake” was a term the Nazis used to refer to the ashes of people incinerated during the Holocaust; this has been debunked by Snopes.)
Alt-right mouth pieces like Ben Garrison and Tomi Lahren delight in painting liberals as overweight cat ladies, so concerned about the “feewings” of other human beings that they can’t see the cold hard facts. But “special snowflake” is an all-purpose dismissal, as easily applied to Meryl Streep speaking about empathy at the Golden Globes as it is to protesters marching against an unconstitutional Muslim ban. It doesn’t matter that receiving a lifetime achievement award might be one of the most justifiable times for someone to feel special, or that Tyler Durden’s group of non-Snowflake anarchists were anti-capitalist dissenters, destroying office buildings and breaking glass at Starbucks. Snowflake is an ad hominem attack, a taunt of a schoolyard bully by way of Ayn Rand. You’re a wuss, and so your argument is invalid.

Calling someone a snowflake combines every single thing a college freshman loves: trolling people on the Internet, a self-satisfied sense of the superiority of one’s own impeccable powers of reasoning, and Fight Club. Nineteen-year-olds around the nation read Atlas Shrugged and then watch Brad Pitt wax poetic about how real masculinity means getting to punch Jared Leto in the face, and now feel enlightened. The world is garbage, because only because other people don’t see through the bullshit like you do. If only people could put their feelings aside and look at the cold, hard facts.

If branding the political opposition with a nickname is a longstanding tradition, it’s also one that almost inevitably backfires. A group united by an offensive label is still united: it’s only a matter of flipping the name into a self-identifier. “Tory,” and “Whig” are both political party names that rose out of insults. The “Sans-culottes” during the French revolution likewise re-appropriated an insult about their lack of britches into a point of anti-elitist pride. From queers to suffragettes to impressionist painters, terms meant to deride become a catchy point of pride, a snarky acknowledgement of appealing underdog status that galvanizes membership. People who thought Hillary Clinton was referring to them as “deplorable” put it in their Twitter names; women who related when Trump called Clinton a “nasty woman” responded by emblazoning the phrase on their t-shirts. The only way to fight back against an insult that doesn’t mean anything is to reclaim it, to diminish its power by making that identity a point of pride. This is the life cycle of all identity insults, and “snowflake” is already reaching the end of that cycle.

There’s a slogan among Trump protesters that’s become increasingly common on protest signs. “Damn right we’re snowflakes,” the signs read. “And winter is coming.”

Wow! All this time, Rainmaker thought it was just sarcasm.....

Who could've known, that it was actually another sinister "alt. right" plot (between a 24 year old political commentator, an obscure cartoonist and President Trump) to secretly resurrect the anti-abolitionist riots of 1834, and the horrors of the Nazi death camps ??!!!

Funny i have never heard trump supporters threaten to blow up or kill clinton, or to get bats and beat all 'liberals' (like one of the people at the screen writers guild awards said ON STAGE). Or have gone around and beaten someone up, Just cause dey be black and likely voted for hillary... BUT i have known and heard of PLENTY of incidents of that from Hillary supporters TOWARDS trump supporters..

Really? You didn't see the videos of Trump supporters punching/attacking people being removed from rallies? Are you really going to claim that it didn't happen?

Don't talk like that. You're bound to create a shit storm. One side is ALWAYS right and the other side is ALWAYS wrong. There's no compromise. There's no balance. Even if my side does the exact same thing as the other side, my side is justified while their side did it because they were completely incompetent. You gotta catch up here, Hammerman.

1) "Cuck" is special for men who try to be feminist and mansplain while telling everyone else they can't.

2) Snowflakes has nothing to do with pre-1900 abolitionists. It is a term made for you who think they are unique, like everyone else. You people who feel there is a gender for every day of the year. You who feel blacks in America can't be racist or women cant be sexist because they aren't a majority power holder in politics. For you who cant see a difference between "mean words" by tweets and riots in the streets. Those of you who purposely ignore the word "illegal" in illegal immigrant. Those who feel that an executive order from Trump to enforce a law Obama signed into law putting a temporary visa suspension on EVERYONE from a specific 7 countries is a "ban on muslims". You who virtue signal their willingness to punch Nazis in the face just because of their words and everyone behind you who think its "ok, because they are supposed Nazis". The right doesn't take words and twist them to mean something positive in the past as the left has taken "liberal" and "progressive" and "feminism" and twist them into meaning something other than what they used to. No, they are living in the present and making fun of you for feeling you are unique and fragile, like a snowflake.

3)Few people were standing behind the guy who assaulted the protester at the Trump rally. It happened by one individual, any of the times it happened. No one denies it happened. What we do find is kidnapping of handicapped white guys who voted for Trump, car jacking and beatdowns of suspected Trump voters, faux hate crimes reported of Trump supporters, and many riots from anti-Trumpsters.

4) At this point, if Trump cured cancer, the snowflakes would be protesting him for taking away hospice care and leukemia research jobs.

Awwwwwww...poor, poor Trump followers. Can you not see the humor in the irony of Trump and his clan complaining about not getting treated fairly? Isn't that supposed to be exactly what Trump stands for is not getting butt hurt about this kind of thing? But all I keep hearing is "Well, Obama and the Dems did this so why shouldn't we do that?" It's like an elementary school playground during recess.

Oh...and if you want people to stop calling it a "ban" then tell the administration to quit calling using the word "ban". Again, the irony here with Trump and others bitching at liberals for not calling Muslim extremism what it is now being afraid to call the ban what it is.

The left gets to lie and call the TEA party violent with zero destruction of private or public property. But calling BLM, Feminists, and most of the left "rioting thugs" is racist. The only irony is that the left does exactly what they claim everyone else does with no evidence.

Common sense would allow you to see, that they rolled it out exactly as planned.

It's not that they're afraid. But, as a practical matter. They just can't call it that.

Because, the girls on the view will immediately start screeching about their menstrual blood on the bed-sheets, liberal Dolts will parrot it. and the Socialist pervert lawyers at the ACLU will immediately try to tie their hands in court.

You keep going on about "Trump Followers and clans", like their some kind of small faction. But, The majority of the American public supports this.

You can garner from open sources that 1000's of refuges were set by the Obama admin, to flow in last weekend. Do you know if they were properly vetted? I don't.

Yesterday you were whining because, Trump's not being nice enough and today he's supposedly afraid to call it what it is.

You're really shitting the bed again sandsjames.

Did it not happen or did it happen but by Obama instead of Trump (hail)? Which is it? It's ok to admit when you're wrong.

Ok, I can admit its a "ban" of 120 days. Trump used it. I still don't give a shit what it is. Its an enforcement of a previous law to protect the US from a Trajan horse attack. Oh, geez, what a mean nasty person Trump is for protecting his country. Wonder how mad Saudis are for not allowing these refugees in to their country RIGHT NEXT DOOR. Amazing all these "refugees" are trying to come to the US, 4,000 miles away, when there are countries that share their culture in their own back yard?

There are a-holes on both sides of the political spectrum ...

The difference is that when it happens on the right it's an anomaly.

Over a Million people attended President Trump' s campaign events. You can count on one hand the number of incidents of violence that actually happened.

On the other side you've had 100's (if not 1000's)of individual attacks, as well as dozens of organized riots, by paid agitators, vandalizing property, assaulting women, turning over cars, starting fires, smashing window, clashing with police.

Things like Cal Berkley (last night) are a regular occurrence.

Yet, The MSM played a geriatric old white man losing his shit and punching a 20-something year old (paid black agitator) at a Trump rally outside Ft. Bragg on a continuous loop.

Dude, I'm with you. I like the idea of the ban. That's not the issue. The issue is that the administration is openly and often contradicting itself as to what it is. Trump (hail) isn't supposed to care what people think so why would he give a shit? But he does give a shit, his press secretary does give a shit, and for them to deny they used the term after it's very clear they did just causes them to lose credibility.

It's clear that sandsjames has a problem with authority figures.

President Trump's being the big dog and actually attempting to do, what he said he was gonna do, and that people ELECTED him to do. hurts his little feel goods.

It's also painfully obvious that sandsjames, has developed a deep-seated, inferiority complex and seeing a successful, WHITE male, with a beautiful, successful, WHITE family...... probably TRIGGERS him.

On the one hand he says he supports the ban. But, he wants Trump to be more PC about it.

On the other hand Trump's a big fat, racist meanie, who's too Politically Correct, so He voted for Hillary Clinton (who amassed a $350M fortune, without ever having held a private sector job & dreams of open borders) Because, voting for Donald Trump was "too risky".

Have you ever had a commander or a supervisor that you didn't 100% agree with everything they said or did? But, you still respected and supported them because, you thought , that overall they we're doing the best they could, with mission accomplishment (and maybe even your best interest) at heart?

Stubborn is you continuing to say that I voted for Hillary.

I've told you now several times that I like a lot of the stuff he's doing. I also agree that he's getting shit on by the media and I also believe that he has our best interest at heart. In addition, I think he's going to fix immigration, he's going to attempt to steer medical care in the right direction and he's going to make us feared and respected again by other countries.

That, however, does not change the fact that he doesn't have to be so childish about shit to get it done. His job is not easy, he has a lot to fix, and he'd have a much better chance of doing so if he would be the one to end the seemingly endless cycle of being difficult to the opposition just because the prior administration did the same. We bitched for years that Obama just kept blaming Bush for shit...now we have to hear Trump (hail) blame Obama for shit. We get it...move on.

Trump is the old dude in the locker room who stands there naked with one foot up on the bench talking to everyone in a very creepy, close up way. A little modesty would go a long way to bring the opposition to maybe garner a little more support.

Does he need the support? No, because (and yes, this was pointed out on that MSM brainwashing Morning Joe) we are closer and closer everyday to a parliamentary system with there being almost no need anymore for 60 votes to pass policy. It's been happening for years...it would be much better if we had a President who could garner some bipartisan support. Trump (hail) wants to change Washington? That's awesome. The quickest way to changing it is leading in a way that will bring back a system that is worried about the country instead of a system that is worried about reelection.

If he wants to be different, he needs to act different. I don't mean different in the boastful rich kid way, I mean different in a way that involves the entire government, not just the 51 votes he needs. That would be different. That would be a change that would be helpful. Bush didn't do it...Obama didn't do it...let Trump (hail) be different and do it.

Really? You didn't see the videos of Trump supporters punching/attacking people being removed from rallies? Are you really going to claim that it didn't happen?

Yes i did. AND did that guy get arrested.. YES.

How many times have we seen these 'anti-trump protests errupt into mass violence, anarchy, arson and assault, many times with the cops just standing ON THE SIDELINES< and maybe arresting a dozen here, a dozen there... HELL yesterday's rampage at UCLA Berkley, all that damage done and what. 1 whole arrest?? ARE YOU FRIKKEN Kidding me?

Awwwwwww...poor, poor Trump followers. Can you not see the humor in the irony of Trump and his clan complaining about not getting treated fairly? Isn't that supposed to be exactly what Trump stands for is not getting butt hurt about this kind of thing? But all I keep hearing is "Well, Obama and the Dems did this so why shouldn't we do that?" It's like an elementary school playground during recess.

You wanna talk fairly. How many riots were there when Obama was looking to be our president? NOT A damn one. How many riots were there when he got re-elected. AGIAN NONE>
How many times were the right rioting when Bill got elected? Again, i don't know of a single one.

How many times did someone publicly state Obama should get assassinated? Have his house blown the VXUCX*RE up? Or with Clinton??

Don't remember a single incident of that during or just after the inaugurations.
YET it has happened with Reagan, Bush Sr, Bush JR and now with don. Seems the ONLY side doing it is always the left???
YET they claim to be the party of Tolerance, inclusiveness and 'love'..

LOL, pointing out hypocrisy is tantamount to "elementary school playground"? Yeah, ok. The left gets to lie and call the TEA party violent with zero destruction of private or public property. But calling BLM, Feminists, and most of the left "rioting thugs" is racist. The only irony is that the left does exactly what they claim everyone else does with no evidence.

Exactly MOST every report i have read on the tea party movement showed what LITTLE violence there was, was when ANTI tea party protestors showed up.
THE tea party itself left every place they went to protest CLEANER than it was when they showed up.
CAN ANYONE say the same for these BLM protests? For the Anti-trump protests? HELL NO.
And if they did, they would be lying.

Exactly Rain. The liberal lame stream media shares one HELL of a chunk of the blame for all of it..

The main reason this keeps happening is that they've been selectively "enforcing" the law.

The question is why?

clearly one of the immediate tasks should be to investigate & issue warrants for the arrest of those, funding and organizing these leftist agitators and charging them with Seditious conspiracy.

18 U.S. Code § 2384 - Seditious conspiracy

"If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both"

Enjoy how your fellow snowflakes act? That's funny in more than one way. First, for you to think that I support this kind of thing shows how much you completely ignore anything I say. Two, it's hilarious that you think the term "snowflake" in any way has an impact on me. I guess it's kinda cool for the elderly white guys to have something they can use to make them equal to the young socialist Bernie Sanders Reddit crowd. You guys are doing a great job.

Doesn't it bother you that you've latched on so quickly to the "snowflake" term? What I like about the term is it almost describes the people using the word. White, fluffy, just like sheep.

WJ5 has exposed himself many times by liking Rainmaker's racist posts without having the balls to come out and say anthing blatantly racist himself (although he does have a habit of defending racist shit as "not racist").

But here's something new from WJ5: he actually voiced support for the Neo-Nazi that got punchined in the face by ANCOMs twice.

This "snowflake" and "cuck" deal is no different than the feminists they bitch about who use the term "real man" in order to shame men out of their desire to fill traditional roles or into filling roles traditionally filled by women. The intent is the same: appealing to one's masculinity in order to influence behavior or belief. Afterall, if you weren't such a "snowflake" or a "cuck," you'd be on our side!

Must've been a slow day over at Huffpo. So, you came on here and shit-posted an "article" from Gay Queer Magazine

...... in which, the author complains about political branding, while at the same time negating her own credibility (by painting half the country, with the broad brush term of "alt-right")

Then when the stupidity of this sanctimonious- liberal-socialist -shit-for-brains gets pointed out.........

You default back to your usual routine of calling everyone else, that disagrees with you "racist"........ next up watch as @RustyJones publically bitches and moans to the mod to ban us all!

Yes Laura Schwartz it does tell us something. And we (the sovereign American people of God's actual "Promised Land") do see through it.

Rainmaker knew the "source" before he even looked up the source, just by the tone of the article............ .

You'd be wise to follow your own advice, Snowflake. The new "Sixties" are over. You lost.

For now, you're free to do whatever it is that you think needs to be done.......... But, based on the new reality, the consequences will soon be dire.

I've got a racist quote from you right in my signature. Stating that black men are a natural fit for getting paid to do nothing? That's not merely "disagreeing with me."

If you're really trying to say that I'm calling a you a racist for merely "disagreeing with me," then you're an even bigger idiot than you think I am by trying to bullshit me with that.

Of course there'll be zero fucks given, because all that will ever happen will that you'll be called racist, homophobic, or anti-semitic. Let the word "jewfag" find its way onto your post and be directed towards someone that you don't like, and what's going to happen? You'll merely be called on it by me and/or SJ. But not a damn thing will happen to you. So of course you don't give a fuck.

Yeah, but then you have to look at the fact that he's been around almost ten years and was one of the earlier pioneers for the alt-right. And the left would build all this up, just for him to get punch in the face "if" Trump got elected 10 years later?

Sorry bud, those straws are about a mile beyond your grasp.

Rainmaker hadn't got around to googling the "Wall of Meat" yet.

But, ANCOMs stands for Anarchist Communism.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchist_communism

Apparently they fancy themselves as some kind of modern-day heirs to the Bolshevik red terror of 100 years ago.

Of course, other than the symbolism, the only similarity between them and the real McCoy is that they're both funded and organized by transnational bankers and (mostly) jewish intellectuals.

The main difference is that the Bolsheviks actually had jobs and weren't totally dependent upon the good graces of the state they seek to overthrow (or their parent's money) to survive.

Rainmaker would guess the aim is probably to cobble together a coalition Army of misfit toys (made up primarily of LGBTQ activists, liberal college professors, snowflakes, moslem fundamentalists, feminists, Illegal alien foreign nationals, MS-13 vatos and hood-rats and then somehow.......... overthrow the US republic and install a direct democracy led by them (think: multi-culti USSR).

Of course, the only way this utopian pipe dream could actually happen, would be through the ballot box, which why their handlers are now losing their collective shit (as they've realized that the 99% non-white immigration flood gates are fixin to be permanently locked down).
