Over on one of my gaming boards someone is wondering. If i take a 50ft long rope, and knot it up to make climbing easier.. How much would the rope shorten up??

Anyone know or have a damn good guess??

Depends on what knots or style of sinnet you use.

You know those paracord bracelets? If you use a really fancy (fat) knot (sinnet)... you use about 1 foot of cord for 1 inch of bracelet.

Depends on the thickness of the rope as well. The ropes I have fashioned for climbing are on the thick side, so about 4 inches per knot once extreme tightening happens (with weight). I use a knot about every 12 inches. The length of the rope shortens with every knot, so the loss of length would be incremental as you add knots.
