I know for the AF, when the president gets on a plane (or helo) it changes name from what ever it was to AF1.
BUT what about naval vessels?? Does a Navy ship (Say a destroyer) who the POTUS is staying on for an extended period of time, get a name change?

Per OPNAVINST 1710/10 no, a Naval Vessel will retain her name (the difference being that a vessel is a commissioned warship). If he were to embark on a Naval Aircraft (think GWB in 2003, the aircraft he landed on ABRAHAM LINCOLN shifted its callsign to NAVY ONE.

When POTUS embarks he/she is rendered honors as such:

-display the Presidential flag from main truck (in port) or from the mast head to the port of the national ensign (underway).
-man the brow or embarkation point with 8 side boys
-at embarkation, 8 bells and announced as "United States, arriving/departing" -- no stinger.

Thanks for the quick answer. This was in relation to a question raised over on Gateworld forums for the TV show, the Last Ship..

Any ship that carries the POTUS are named 'The Good Ship Lollipop' when the POTUS is aboard.

Ah. I knew the bells etc. from my OOD board, and which instruction covered the protocol.

The Good Ship Lollipop was an airplane.

"On the Good Ship Lollipop" was the signature song of child actress Shirley Temple.[1][2] Temple first sang it in the 1934 movie Bright Eyes.[3] The song was composed by Richard A. Whiting and the lyrics were supplied by Sidney Clare.

In the song, the "Good Ship Lollipop" travels to a candy land. The "ship" referred to in the song is an aircraft; the scene in Bright Eyes, where the song appears, takes place on a taxiing American Airlines Douglas DC-2.[4][5]
