Was surfing the English news paper websites for soccer related stories and saw this. Am real surprised i don't see anything about it yet on CNN or fox.

First off, why is that? Is it cause the attackers were black and the victims white, making it not news worthy?
Secondly, is Kroger going to fire that employee on the phone, who can be heard laughing at the attack?

There are differing reports:

In this clip you see several black teenagers beating one white teen.

But the witness says this clip is just a tiny snapshot of what happened in the entire parking lot. He states, blacks, whites, girls and boys were all part of the vicious pack.

“Were all of the victims white?” asked WREG’s Elise Preston.

“No, they were black and white. Will is white, Brian is black. and then my other friend, Brandon, he`s black as well,” replied the witness.

White people should take to the streets to demand justice. They should loot their neighborhood stores, smash windows and throw rocks at the police. Then they should demand that Al Sharpton, Eric Holder and Obama encourage honest, open discussions about race relations.

“It is extremely troubling to see how many young people were involved, especially on the heels of last week’s youth forum,” Memphis Police Director Toney Director Armstrong wrote in a statement. “Last night’s events clearly demonstrates a lack of parental controls and if warranted these parents will also be held accountable.”

Witness: ‘Blood and Pumpkins’

A witness, who spoke to WREG on the condition of anonymity, said he is a friend of the victims.

The witness said the group was made up of “100 to 125 kids” who were playing a game called “Point Them Out, Knock Them Out.”

“Where they would point someone out and attempt to knock them out or fight them. There was no real reason behind it,” the witness said. “They followed hitting him with a pumpkin. He was already unconscious, so all you could see was blood and pumpkins.”

The teen, who watched in horror as the mob beat his friends until they couldn’t move, said this is the second weekend he saw a violent mob of kids attack random people in the shopping plaza parking lot.

“Why, honestly why? Why did that happen?” the witness asked. “There was no real reason behind it. What was the point of that game? You are hurting somebody you don’t even know.”

Racially Motivated Attack?

The witness says the video of the incident, which appears to show several black teenagers beating one white teen, only shows a part of what happened that night. He said that blacks, whites, girls and boys were all part of the vicious pack.

When asked if all the victims white were white, the witness said the victims were both black and white.

“Will is white, Brian is black and then my other friend, Brandon, he’s black as well,” replied the witness.

So it appears that race wasn't a factor in the attack, and therefore not the reason, I assume, why CNN and Fox haven't covered the attack. If you truly want answers as to why they didn't/haven't covered this incident:

Secondly, is Kroger going to fire that employee on the phone, who can be heard laughing at the attack?

On what grounds would Kroger, or any company for that matter, fire someone for laughing at an attack/people fighting? Because some of the victims were employees?

Where did you get that the women recording the attack was a Kroger's employee? The second and third articles you linked to in your post refer to the women capturing the attack on her cellphone as "a women" in the 3rd link/article and a "female witness" in the 2nd link/article.

@garkhal

How many more threads are you going to start that claim some sort of bias or injustice against white folks, and particularly white men?

I'm glad to see a couple of others noticing that the links you provide very often don't support your claims.

I fully expect to get accused of "stalking" you, but in reality I just might be doing you a favor.

If you put a little more effort into reading about what you are claiming, you just might find that I'll shut the hell up.

Either that, or you'll figure out that the white male isn't the victim that you seem to think he is.

Point made. Perhaps i should have read more on these links (and the others in recent days). But when i see headlines like that reported in an ENGLISH newspaper's site before i even see anything about it on a stateside sire, (and last i looked i still didn't see anything on it on either fox or cnn's site in the area of justice or the US) it really gets my goat. Plus when we see things like holder sending agents etc down to places like ferguson when a black man is a victim of a white officer shooting him but (so far) see nothing on this where it does appear a good majority of the perps were black, it makes me even more fumed..

I'm confused, you're upset because you found an article regarding the attack in Memphis on a British news site while searching for soccer related stories BEFORE finding anything about it on any US sites? If you were looking for sports related info on British sites and came across an article/headline about the Memphis situation…..of course you found it on a British site before finding it on any US sites. Maybe I'm missing something?

And what's your fixation with CNN and Fox? Do you not believe it unless they report on it? Why does it matter? Is it these sites/organizations in particular, or is it any US site? Two of your three links are US based: Your second link, nydailynews.com, is the New York daily news. The third link, wtvr.com, is a CBS news station out of Richmond Virginia. I'm not sure if this will appease you or not, but http://nation.foxnews.com/2014/09/08/brutal-memphis-parking-lot-attack-caught-camera it’s a short article with little info, but it’s Fox. And what about http://www.gopusa.com/news/2014/09/08/teen-mob-targets-random-white-customer-they-fixin-to-jack-hold-on-they-got-a-white-dude/? Does it count? (No offense, but I couldn’t resist.)

EDIT: 3:29 AM PST Just found this by accident: http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/us/2014/09/08/dnt-tn-teens-parking-lot-attack.wmc.html Regarding my first post, I guess I was wrong and/or the links in the OP were inaccurate. According to this video employee(s) did tape the assault(s).

Why do you feel that this is a story newsworthy enough for the national media (CNN, FOX, etc.)? Maybe they felt it wasn't a big enough story? Like I said in my last post, If you truly want answers as to why CNN and Fox didn't/haven't covered this incident, maybe you should contact them. (See contact links in my last post.)

Plus when we see things like holder sending agents etc down to places like ferguson when a black man is a victim of a white officer shooting him but (so far) see nothing on this where it does appear a good majority of the perps were black, it makes me even more fumed..

How many other places besides Ferguson has Holder sent “agents etc.” too? (Just for my own info as I haven’t heard of any others.)

Do you not see the difference between what happened in Memphis and what went on in Ferguson? There was more to what was going on in Ferguson then “a black man is a victim of a white officer shooting him,” and I haven’t heard about anything similar going on in Memphis. So why exactly do you feel that the Attorney General of the US should send FBI agents to Memphis? Seems to me it’s something the residents of Memphis, the parents of the shit bag perpetrators, and police can handle; although it was mentioned in at least one of your links that this is the second time something like this has happened so maybe not. Do you have a link to an article/site where you got “it does appear a good majority of the perps were black?” Or is it your guess/assumption? And what does it matter if the majority of the perps were black? Are you saying that anytime a crime is committed where most of the perpetrators are black, that Eric Holder should dispatch FBI agents? If so, what are city polices department’s role in these type situations? I’m just curious as to why you feel the Holder/the Federal Government should be involved. If most of the perpetrators were white, would this story still be getting your goat?

I'm not trying to preach, so please don't take it that way. It's just guy giving a helping hand to another guy.

Headlines are meant to inflame. The outrage leads to a click on the article. Clicking on the article generates visits to a page, which show ads. The owner of the website can now truthfully report that "X" unique users saw the ad and money is generated. It's a game and we are willing participants. There is another part of the game as well, and this may be viewed a conspiracy...

News stories like this are disturbing to most people. I immediately thought of my kids and how I would react to seeing my son stomped in a parking lot. Chances are, I would soon be in jail. Nevertheless, the effect is achieved. In my opinion, the mainstream media has one goal: polarize the country. It does not matter which side you land on, just land somewhere. This guarantees viewership and ratings for whichever side you decide to ally with. The country is basically two diametrically opposed groups, each pointing at the other with claims they are to blame for all that is wrong. What most have forgotten is that in each group are Americans. Has there ever been so much division in this country? Maybe in the days leading up to the Civil War. Be objective and you will see that both Republicans and Democrats are playing off the division and are even perpetuating it, encouraging it, and thriving from it.

It's easy to get caught up in and yes, it happens to me sometimes. I am not perfect, but I make a conscious effort to dig for details and get multiple sources before I pass judgement on any issue. Many of the frequent flyers here on MTF have differing points of view and I appreciate that. Looking at an issue from a different set of eyes is valuable. Some are so narrow in their perspective that no amount of reasoning can persuade them to even acknowledge that there is another side to the story.

I hope this does not offend you in anyway. Again, just one guy offering a suggestion to another guy.

Cool post... It makes me feel a small pang of guilt for for poking at @garkhal with my sharp stick.

[...]

It's easy to get caught up in and yes, it happens to me sometimes. [...]

Indeed, this is what is known as the battle for the agenda, both sides try to establish what is salient.

Sometimes I wish for the emergence of a third party in American politics, but it would be foolish of me to think that it would change this dynamic of how humans communicate ideas to one another.

Even on a personal level, we use rhetoric to establish a stronger position from which to persuade others.

As children, we even do this! When my oldest son was four years old, he was already a bona-fide spin doctor.

It comes to us naturally, and when we operate in large groups known as media corporations, we can create very sophisticated multi-layered messages that persuade minds on a massive scale.

We all get caught up in it to some extent, but we are particularly vulnerable if we dig no further than the headlines.

Fox has been covering it for 2-3 days. Probably because it first appeared the victims were white, which turns out to not be the case. They did report the mixed race victims this morning.

Be aware of your surroundings, it doesn't matter if you've been there 1,000 times.

If you're looking down at your phone, you are not situationally aware.

Gonzo's checklist for going to Kroger, Wal-Mart, Lowes, Applebees, Steak and Shake, any mall or pretty much anywhere that is not a school or a federal building: keys, wallet, cellphone, handgun with retention holster, spare magazine.

I second that, but I don't conceal carry with a retention holster, and carry two spare magazines. When I have my .45, that about 15 rounds total. When I have my 9mm, that's 45 rounds total. I'm sure I could cause my own brand of chaos if a mob of teens decided to play "point it out, knock it out" with me!

The fact that both CNN and fox STILL have a lot of stuff in regards to Ferguson, on their sites as well as the TV shows, but yet have to even mention it on the ticker is what i find strange. Something of major note for the entire country being reported on first by a foreign news paper, and still not being mentioned by major news sites is imo troubling.
Its almost like saying, if its not racially motivated, terror or scandelous, its not news worthy.

I saw the latter when doing a Bing search on the story (the gopusa site) and as a member there, i made a comment on the article. The NY daily news site seems local, but it at least is US. Same with the CBS. As for that 'nation' site for fox, is that part of the main foxnews site?

Why do you feel that this is a story newsworthy enough for the national media (CNN, FOX, etc.)? Maybe they felt it wasn't a big enough story?

Its imo the Hypocrisy in the reporting. White guy shoots black, and its all over damn near every news site/station. Mixed bunch of blacks, whites and others, mob a few blacks and white kid, and its NOT news worthy? That is what makes me scratch my head. If a cop shooting a black kid who charged him is all of a sudden "TOP STORY" then why is a group of youths mobbing a few shoppers not? What makes the one story that much more important, while the other one doesn't even get a mention in the main news sites (CNN/FOX/MSNBC)?

How many other places besides Ferguson has Holder sent “agents etc.” too? (Just for my own info as I haven’t heard of any others.)

Didn't he send them down to florida for the Travon trial?

They do seem to get involved when its the opposite (white perp/black victim), so why NOT get involved when its the other way?

It's not almost saying... it is exactly saying it. The media is under no obligation to the public to report anything. They are, however, obligated to the owners and shareholders of the network who are probably in tight with a senior elected official. The reporter is simply on-air talent. Nice teeth, attractive, plunging neckline... This is only my perspective - I have nothing to back it up - but I strongly feel that 80% of everything reported in the media is planted to further an agenda.

I agree that most media is agenda-driven...but I disagree that this is their only obligation.

I think what most media are doing these days is pretty unethical...and that they really do have an ethical and moral obligation to society to report the appropriate news truthfully.

They actually have a canon of ethics which seems to have been tossed out a long time ago. I always think of the old timers like Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite etc. I can't help but wonder what they would say in these days and if they themselves would be forced to comply with corporate policies chasing ratings.

Fox News, CNN, MSNBC and other 24 hour "news" outlets are not news. They only editoriallize the news that is being pushed out by real journalist. The people on your 24 hour news shows are not journalist...just like FedEx employees are not employees of the Federal Govt. When you hear them speculating or assuming things on air, or bringing on some "expert" talking head that had nothing to do with the story...turn the channel. Stop watching that garbage...watch your local news...and read, read, read. As soon as I hear someone say...they saw it on Fox or CNN, I turn off. I enjoy FOX news and disagree that it's "not news," or at least most of it. When there's a factual incident and they report it, then that's news...period. When they offer opinions, that's a different story. That's when you decide to turn the channel or not, depending on your interest. I take opinions with a grain of salt, but in general agree with much (not all) of when I hear on FOX. That said, FOX is not my only source of news...nor should it be.

As for MSNBC, it's not 24/7 news. That's unless of course you consider "Lockup" news.
