View Full Version : Is it time to quit? (the forum that is)

When Mil Times brought in a bunch of hired guns to clean up the Wild West atmosphere of Forum City, quite a few good posters up and left because it just wasn't fun anymore. The Blutarski thread had pretty much run its course but we still had one great thread (with an awesome GWOT vet as lead character) simmering on the back burner which would occasionally bubble to the top. But the mods have evicted that renter and closed the basketball court. Wills we ever have the power to have fun in here again?

I'm not sure if it was the purges or what it was, but the amount of activity has dropped quite a bit, I certainly find myself visiting here less frequently. I think a lot of the difficulty is a lack of common interest among those who do stick around in what remains. I certainly have a hard time (as a Navy guy) commenting on the latest AFI or USAF billetting conundrum so for obvious reasons I generally don't. I know the topics of conversation I put forth don't tend to get a lot of bites for more than a page, so I guess the market for politics and philosophical discussion has narrowed considerably. It seems to be a combination of lack of common interests as well as a removal from the more controversially engaging elements in the content. I guess many of us do hold at least a possible notion that the MTF has run its course.

It seems like more than half to 75 percent of the threads are about AF stuff, so I have no interest. And posting or commenting on anything that actually is interesting/contraversial will get you banned.

It depends how it's stated I suppose, I've still managed to avoid banning/private censure even while being quite critical with the mods themselves, and I don't mind stirring the pot every now and then either, although I will submit never in a fashion to drag a conversation down the racism/anti-religion/homophobia route.

It is a little stale in here and I also find myself dropping by less and less.

I think we should pick out a random member and verbally abuse them until they devolve into posting upper case rants at the rest of us.

That might shake things up a bit, or we could start agreeing with everything Sandsjames posts to see if it would make him want to be contrary and post something positive once in awhile.

Hey Mods...are you unable to see that the entire purpose of AAs posts are to call me out by name? Over and over? I realize he's fixated on me but that's his issue, not mine.

Ditto.

I have been an admin/moderator on several internet forums, so I am very aware of the difficulty in pleasing everyone (you can't) and yet acting impartial in disputes (very difficult). My only grief is that when a thread devolves into name-calling and insults it is usually the same people involved. The thread is then locked/closed. That is a chicken-$hit way to react. Deal with the offending parties one-on-one and let those of us that can be adults continue the debate and/or conversation. It is almost as if some members here have immunity from moderation... a "protected class" so to speak.

as bOSS302 enjoys to be the school-yard cyberBully here, telling ones they shouldn't be on certain threads, especially to the living legend, Bruwin. I think the problem is that they banned all of Tak's accounts. The truth is this place never really had thousands of unique users. What they actually had was a couple thousand tak accounts. Tak created accounts for all of his multiple personalities as well as interesting people he would come in contact with. During the Forum's peak a few years ago Tak was just one of those board missileers at Minot chowing down on burgers and tots while trolling us.

This is how you ruin a good thing. Do the mods think I'll subscribe or even just pick up a copy of their rag at the Shoppette now with the way they are dictating these forums? It's a two letter answer that I usually like to get descriptive with: hell no.

I am not going to reward such atrocious behavior by giving them money. That's just stupid.

I took used to come to the forums a few times a day and buy their paper. Now? Maybe once or twice a week if that...and I am never buying that paper. Why? Because this place used to be a water cooler. Come talk about anything and everything in a comfortable manner. Yes we would goof around, argue, insult...but at the end of it all in another thread we were talking serious, agreeing, and getting along.

Now?

This place just absolutely sucks.

And it's 99% because of these idiot, fucktard, asshole mods.

I mean they REALLY, REALLY suck. And whoever is letting them act like this also sucks.

Military Times will NEVER be taken seriously - so fucking stop trying. Everyone in every branch knows this is a bullshit company that compares to the National Enquirer and NOT the New York Times for the military. It's a joke of a paper TOPS.

So again - stop...fucking...trying.

Hey I love my Acft Tug Art. On the C141 FE panel we use to pull blank panels off and put Playboy Art and Hustler Comics under the panels. FE use to tell me they found it and laughed about it. Who was going to complain because they were not supposed to the remove those panels. As far as coffee runs any good Crew Chief will tell you have to bring your own thermos to work. More important than the T.Os

Yet another reason it is a good thing that all those C-141s were sent to the bone yard. There is no telling how much sexually offensive material is stashed away in the avionics of those old planes.

The C-17 is a much better airlifter, and it doesn't have a moronic FE stuffing pornographic material behind access panels.
