This is hardly a news flash. Area 51 has been on google earth for a few years.

I saw an interesting article a few years ago about unit patches associated with Area 51.

The coolest one featured a wizard hurling lighting bolts, I think his name was Tim.

I thought the AF admitted to an "Operating Location" near Groom Lake after the hoopla in the 90's.

Not sure why the LV Sun is publishing this as if it's news; anyone that wants to see Area 51 can find it on Google maps and has been able to since, like ... since Google maps has been around. It's about 50 miles north of Creech AFB.

It's on Google Maps/Earth, but if you look closely some of the areas that look like black tarmac (ramps/taxiways) are actually a little too dark to be actual asphalt. They've been "sanitized" by who knows what agency before the imagery was released for public viewing.

Not that I beleive they're hiding UFOs.....probably certain test or skunkworks aircraft.

So...can we now get orders that state Groom Lake or Area 51 instead of "Data Masked"?

I expect not, since I think the only non-slang name I've heard for it is "Tonopah Test Range"

Years ago in Korea I worked with a guy who had been stationed at Area 51/Tonopah Range/Dreamland. I asked him if his supervisor was an alien :alien Now that I think about it, he never answered:madgrin
