Don't know if this is the best place to start this but here goes.
Have always been a horsepower nut. Not brand specific...love all sports/performance cars. Here is a list of the toys I have owned.
65 GT-350: Purchased from a Capt in AF when he PCSed to Japan...totaled by drunk driver.
72 Chevelle: 1st car ever modified. Sold because could not afford the gas the Holly 850 double pump required.
86 Buick Grand National. Drove for 135K miles...loved ever moment. Sold to buy a boat.
66 427 Cobra replica. Built entire car, drove for 5K miles and sold to build new project...then got orders to Germany.
09 BMW M3. Purchased while at Ramstein. Fastest production car I have owned yet. My limit was 175mph on the autobahn. Would guess it tops out just above 180.
Current rides: 2012 F-150 Ecoboost and wife drives a 2012 BMW 528i.

On order: 2014 GT500 Mustang. This is my retirement present to myself...had to wait a year but will be delivered on/about 15 Aug. Can't wait to see what 662 factory HP feels like.

Anyway...what are your current rides or past toys you had to get rid of.

In high school, I had a 1964 GTO, Detroit's first supercar. Turquoise body, white convertible top with the 389ci, tri-powered, under the hood, and mated with a 4-speed turbo trani. A Hurst, T-bar, shifter, and a 4:88 posi-trac rear end. Sold it about a month before enlisting.

After separating, the first time, bought a 1980 MGB-GT, limited edition. Last year they were in production. Black body, with convertible top, and silver striping along the rocker panels. After re-upping, later that year, was stationed in Pensacola, FLA., and found a little hi-fi shop were I had an Alpine stereo, with Pioneer speakers installed. Sold it in 1993. Chicks loved that little skate board!

The most notable of a handful of pick-ups, and 4WD's was a 1986 GMC High Sierra, 3500HD, 4WD, with single rears. Silver gray, with dark blue sides, and powder blue pin striping. 44", Buckshot Radial Mudders on white wagon wheels. Had a 350ci under the hood, but tweaked with Edelbrook high rise manifold, and a Holley 850. It had 4:11 diff's. Only got stuck one time. Pined against a tree in a ravine after sliding sideways.

MGB...brings back childhood memories. Mother & Father use to road rally MG, Triumphs, and Austin Heelys. Guess that is were I get the passion for sport cars and horsepower.

That is one bad @ss Caddie! I was able to test drive a 2012 and was blown away by the sound and smooth application of power. I ordered the GT500 just because I wanted to own the most powerful production V-8 ever made anywhere.

That sucks, but at least it's a classic that one can still tear apart and fix with tools, unlike today's engine bays filled with shit.

Just finished up a 67 Chevelle SS (all original except engine and new wheels)

I know the old school folks will never get on board with it... but if I WANT to get involved in the process, I've got the option at the stick or paddles on the wheel... but the other 99% of the time, I've got 2 options, mellow or sport, to let a computer much smarter than I do the work for me!

All these car pictures make me wish I had something classic like that to wrench on. I have an '02 Pontiac WS6 Trans Am. Not a classic yet, but one day it will be. And I wrench on it as much as I can. I'm changing the AC compressor this weekend. Georgia heat sucks with no AC.

I was surprised with the response of my paddle shifters, quite fun on the twisty's in the mountains. Plus when in traffic you don't have to worry about shifting, since everyone knows that crap gets old in a hurry when sitting in bumper to bumper.

Todays transmissions on sports cars are a ton different from when Muscle Cars were born. Remember when you had to install a 'shift kit' to make is shift faster? The 09 M3 dual clutch I sold last year was one of the best cars I've ever driven. If the 2014 GT500 I have on order offered a dual clutch...I would have selected the option.

The ones who hate on todays sports auto transmissions have never driven one. There is a reason the most high performance cars in the world don't have a third peddle.

I had a 72 SS Chevelle 396 with Turbo 400 auto...I did everything I could to destroy the tranny so I could get a 4-speed. Never came close to hurting that tough SOB.

That is a beautiful car! When I PCS'd back to the states I bought a 2010 2SS Camaro M6, I loved the car but my wide traded in her vehicle and wasn't happy. We bought a house and we needed a truck, so I traded my car for a Silverado....not even a year later I wasn't happy and the wife and I talked at length about some things. I now have a 2013 Challenger R/T M6 and I'm keeping this one. I love it! While the engine isn't as powerful as the Camaro's it makes up for it in interior size and trunk space. Besides once the warranty is out I'll dump 10k in it easily for a new Cam, Heads, intake, Maggie, shorty headers...

Why in the world did you get rid of such a sweet car, BMW M3?

The 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 equalled or bested the BMW M3 in a series of tests (MotorTrend); MT gave the "win" to the M3 simply because the M3 beat the 5.0 by a tenth of a second in the 0-60. Pretty good for a $34k car taking on a $64k car.

When a similar track test was done between a BOSS 302 and a BMW M3, the M3 was sent home with its tail between its legs. As part of BMW's modernization of their line-up, the M3 will no longer be produced starting in 2014 with focus shifting to the new M4 and existing M5 and M6.

The GT 500 completely out-classes the M3. One would have to put an M5 or M6 against a GT 500 for there to be parity in terms of performance. With the arrival of the GT 350 in 2015, Ford will have a track-ready super muscle car that takes the best of the BOSS and the GT 500.

Ford was getting killed from 2006-2010 in the muscle car world but has rightfully taken the crown again.

My M3 story: In 2002 I built a replica 427 Cobra. Had the car for 5 yrs. Sold it to build another Cobra. Got orders to Germany three weeks after the sale. I call it my "fun $$$"...I turned the Cobra $$$ into a 2009 M3. The best car I have ever owned/driven. Got orders to Altus, OK. M3 in small town America not a fun combination. M3 was not up for sale but I got an offer I could not turn down. Now my fun $$$ has been idle for the last two years...and going with the 2014 GT500.

Very true....My CC in Germany picked up a 2011 GT 5.0. I was in OK when he contacted me to let me know he was getting the 5.0 and sent the article from MT to me. I replied..."Sir, Congrats on your 5.0...sure your going to love the car. It is sweet to own the car that all other Sports Cars are compared to."

The Boss is simply bad ass. The M3 is not a designed track car. I had the 4-door sedan with every option and it was one bas ass 4-door.

Before I order the GT500 my wife asked my not order a M6? We went to the BMW dealer and I showed her the $135,000 window sticker. Both the M5 & M6 would not preform like the new GT500...but they are really in a different class...especially the M6.

Ford typically controls horsepower to very specific situations such as 662 only in 3rd gear (through spark retard/fuel injector pulse limit) or higher but there are programmers to remove these limits. A pully swap on the super charger will get you over 750 hp and is very easy to swap back for any dealer serving. Most programmers will also allow you to return the computer back to stock if you need any warranty work. Your F150 Ecoboost can also be turned into a real screamer with some programming. Just do not forget order some more tires for your 2014 GT500 the day you take delivery and watch out for my envious brothers in blue. Congrats on some awesome cars.

True but the GT500 has a solid rear axle so there will be times a M5/M6 will hookup but the GT500 will turn the rear tires into smoke. The GT500 would be extremely competitive if Ford would break down and upgrade to a independent rear suspension/axle. Ford did it with some earlier Cobras so I don't understand why Ford sticks with the solid rear axle.

Yes...already many aftermarket upgrades for the 13/14 GT500. Going to keep the Stang stock for a while. Most have been getting between 580-600 RWHP stock. There is a combo that a lot of guys are using that adds a CAI, filter, pulley swap & tune ($1,200 pkg) and getting 700 RWHP. My ecoboost has a Bully Dog turner and runs great for being a little over 6,000 lbs. Have always been a hot rod/car guy.

The 2015 Mustang will have independent rear suspension...about 10 yrs late on that. The 500 has launch control to help get off the line...but still does not keep those meats from smoking. If I had the funds....I would get the M6...but those are over twice as much as the Ford.

Have you considered waiting until 2015 for the independent axle? I am glad to see you did not mention anything about methonal injection. I have seen quite a few videos where someone destroyed an engine by trying to get another 80 hp. I would buy the GT500 over a M5/M6 if I had the money; American made for me every time. Most car guys can work on a GT500 but forget about trying to do anything with a M5/M6.

The IRS will add about $1K to the sticker price of a Mustang. The live rear axle of Mustangs past & present truly are dinosaurs in the suspension world - Jeremy Clarkson compared the live rear axle of a Mustang to the girdle of a Victorian-era dress in terms of technology. However the live rear axle is FUN and CHEAP. Ford has also engineered every drop out of the current GT generation live rear axle and it performs excellently.

A problem with the 2015 re-design of the Mustang is the direction in which Ford (and other US brands) are going. Thanks to the EPA guidelines that will be on us in a few years that, amongst other things, severely restrict MPG for cars at the risk of penalties to the car manufacturers, Ford is taking the Mustang down a path that is similar to what we saw in the 80s.

Aside from the obvious skin redesign, the 2015 Mustang apparently will offer a inline-4 and a V6, both with EcoBoost turbo. The 2015 GT will keep the Coyote "5.0" with tweaks. Sadly, the "5.0" V-8 might not be with us for too much longer after that. Ford is looking at "platform sharing" to reduce costs while bringing Mustang to a global audience - there is already a 2015 UK launch with a right-hand drive Mustang that will have the turbo-boosted V4 engine. This platform would most likely be shared with the Fusion.

I have seen quite a few videos where someone destroyed an engine by trying to get another 80 hp. I would buy the GT500 over a M5/M6 if I had the money; American made for me every time. Most car guys can work on a GT500 but forget about trying to do anything with a M5/M6.

Never considered waiting on the 2015. The 13/14 GT500 will be the last vehicle by Ford SVT with a thumbs up from Carroll Shelby to build the car. He approved of the 13 and then passed away....shortly after. It was a sad day for us Car Nuts. That is one of the main reasons I went with the 14. Yes...it has a solid rear axle but it is fully tunable/adjustable with the three link + panhard bar. Not the best for road-racing but I don't really do that kind of driving.

I get to pull the transmission out of my 2002 Trans Am tomorrow to replace the bearing and clutch. Not looking forward to it.

^^^ Really? I like those type of projects. Not too difficult and sort of fun once you get started. Good luck.

I purchased a Bullitt Mustang off the showroom floor back in 2001. Still own it today...a little over 50,000 miles on her now. Longest period of time I've ever owned one car.

Last couple of pics were taken 10 years ago with Richard Petty.
