Finally... it seems DOD is ready to start getting rid of excess brass. I hope it does not take 10 years to undo what the GO ranks has become.

They will eliminate one from each service and say they fixed the problem.

I do agree that chances are, nothing substantial will happen. This is mainly because the people that will recommend changes (eliminating billets, reducing positions, etc) are the same people that have spent 20+ years in uniform striving for the same positions they are tasked to eliminate.

Eliminating 144 flag officers is a good start. Why do we need 924 on active duty and 100 in the guard and reserve? In WWII, we had 2,000 flag officers leading 16 million troops (8,000 to 1 ratio); today we have 924 leading 1.4 million active duty troops (1,515 to 1 ratio). Gates and Mullen tried to eliminate 138 flag officers, but the military responded by promoting more colonels/Navy captains to flag officer ranks. Hagel and Dempsey will have the same challenges.

:spy The G0's play ball by endorsing their industrial military programs in their districts for their local votes;the GO' get rewarded with promotions and a retirement gig. :lock1:banana::smoker2:

Nah....they will move a couple to "joint" billets, add a few more to evaluate the problem, and cut a few thousand enlisted and jr officers to pay for it.
