Let us never forget all those who gave up all their tomorrows so we could have our todays.

OMG, people are blowing up facebook with crap about how it's a bad thing to have cook outs and have fun. We should be remembering of those past.

Just because we have a good time and post pictures of a good time on facebook, doesn't mean we don't remember those past.

Here's the history of the day though:

I saw a few of those as well. Nothing is wrong with that. I mean go to an Irish funeral, you would think it was a party. Same thing, enjoy your today. It was paid for already. Take a moment to remember.

I don't have any problem with those having cook-outs, gatherings, or festivals of any sort. If they chose not to reflect, for a moment, on the meaning behind the day's historical significance, well that's on them. I have more than a dozen former shipmates who are no longer here. Two died while still in service, and neither due to hostile action. But I take time, reflect, and then move on.

Those who died didn't do so for us to mourn them. They did so for us to have the barbeque and live our lives without having to dwell on the past. We recognize them, we thank them, then we get loopy drunk and forget what we were doing. That's what they would have wanted. :boom

In 2009 a British Soldier wore a green dress to his buddy's funeral. Why? Because that was a deal they had made with each other earlier.
