As I walked towards the Gate D entrance of Progressive Field, every once in awhile, I would see this one, elderly, distinguished, gentleman walking briskly to the same gate. I'd shout out, "Hey Bob, let's bring home a winner!" More often than not, he'd reply, "Well, is pitching today, so I think we got a good chance."

[I]"On Veterans Day one big-league player, one baseball Hall of Famer and one member of the U.S. Navy will receive the Bob Feller Act of Valor Award in Washington, D.C., in a tribute to the memory of the Cleveland Indians' legendary ace."

"Feller was the first big-league player to enlist after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Feller missed four seasons with the Indians while serving in the Navy. He served aboard the USS Alabama, which won nine battle stars, eight while Feller was aboard."
