Okay, interesting, maybe significant...but the real reason I posted is:

Tell me you didn't have to read her spouse's name twice!

Let the gays have benefits. They're legally married like anybody else, they're entitled to the same benefits. No real arguement there.

The name was damn funny!!!!! I threw an L in there by accident while reading.

It definitely made me look twice. It would have been funnier if the name was Mike Hunt.

One thing I was surprised about was the plaintiff worked as a staff attorney for the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for several years. I wonder if the judges knew her and if they had to review the rules to see if there was a conflict of interest.

The Obama administration will not oppose a lawsuit seeking military benefits for same-sex military couples because government lawyers believe the Defense of Marriage Act, which prohibits benefits for gay couples, is unconstitutional.

The lawsuit at issue was filed last year by current and former service members who were legally married in states that allow same-sex marriage.

The current and former troops are demanding ... Read the rest of the post here. (http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/news/2012/02/military-obama-will-not-fight-same-sex-couples-lawsuit-022012w/)

No. But same-sex, legally married military couples should.

Ok, I know this doesn't fit EXACTLY but.... Came across this article and am not sure how a spouses club can be forced to admit gay "partners" if they can't legally get married in that state...

http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2013/01/ap-marine-corps-tells-spouses-clubs-must-admit-same-sex-spouses-010913/

Does that mean that a heterosexual can get the same privileges for their boyfriend/girlfriend?

Couldn't they require the attendee to have a dependant ID card, especially since the "club" is usually on base?

Now that section 3 of DOMA has gone away, DoD is still denying benefits to spouses, claiming, "we have to wait for DEERS to be updated". I think that's crap. Since when do we deny benefits to military members and their families because of computer problems? The law grants health care to all spouses...no mention sexuality or DEERS.

Is this a serious question?

But how often does the DoD grant retroactive compensation in those instances?
