Do you know how many people joined active duty through this program in FY11? With on-going Force Shaping, Roll Backs, etc, I am not surprised this is the first I've heard of this.

For FY 11 I dont know the final number but we made and exceeded our goal of 250 people recruited through the PS program. This year I know the goal went up and we are about to make it in the 1 quarter!!!. Whats the difference this year and last year? It became a GOALED program before it was TARGETED program. In recruiting "goaled" and "targeted" are two very different things and when a program becomes a "goaled program" it has the highest of priority because it counts toward the Flight, Squadron, Wing, Group and Command final production numbers.

Target= "we hope to get to __ number"
Goaled= " you better get to ___ number or heads will roll!!!"

Big difference!! Which can mean the promotion or not promotion of a CC or SNCO's to the next rank, basically it can cost them their careers, that's why now the PS program it's being taken seriously. In the past it was something that was put on the backburner, from TOP to BOTTOM no one really cared except a few of us that realize the importance of it from a production standpoint but most importantly from a customer service perspective.

The AF also realize that it saves a lot of money by rehiring/hiring people that know a particular job than recruiting or retraining new or current airmen. As long as they are critically undermanned AFSC's the PS program will be used as a tool to balance those.

Just a quick message for lurkers: If you sign up and automatically send me a PM I will be able to see your PM but wont be able to reply. Apparently it has to do with how many post you have so people can respond to your PM's so if you are a new member please post your question here if not I won't be able to respond.

I was just reading through your very informative post and was hoping you might be able to provide me with a little more clarity. My situation is:
Current E-5 Reserve, USCG, and I have 605 Reserve Points. The main issue I have is that I am 29 and will be turning 30 on November 15th of this year, 2012. I have an appointment to turn in my App for PS to active duty Air Force in 2 weeks. I joined the Reserves in 2009 when I was 26, and am a Maritime Enforcement Specialist, the closest match is Security Forces. The recruiter said he thinks it will be close but that the decision will be decided when it's sent off to HQ.

From your experience does it look as if I am wasting the recruiters time with my situation? Is it likely they are going to reject my PS to active duty Air Force application because of my age.

Thanks so much for your response.

The good thing is that you are working with your recruiter with this and that application is being sent up. Although I can guarantee you that you will be selected the fact that the recruiter is working with you and an application is being submitted is a very good sign. No recruiter will waste the time to go through the application process if he/she wasn't positive that the outcome was going to be good.
